Design proposal for an extension of the boathouse housing Vestmenningur ‘Gamli’.

Originally built in 1927 by Jógvan í Skálum, Gamli was the very first competitive rowing boat in the Faroe Islands. Though no longer in use, it remains a cultural icon for the community of Vestmanna and a cornerstone of Faroese rowing heritage.

The proposal emphasizes a clear and simple expression: the boat should be highly visible from the outside while sheltered from weather and daylight. The extension is designed in dialogue with its surroundings, merging naturally with the neighboring boathouses, ensuring that the white boat with its green and yellow stripes is both distinguished and celebrated within its context.
